Today marks the 53rd anniversary of the The Stonewall Riots, also called the Stonewall Uprising, which began in the early hours of June 28, 1969 when New York City police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay club located in Greenwich Village in New York City. This week of rioting by thousands of LGBTQ+ citizens sparked the galvanization of the Gay Rights Movement across the United States and across the world.
